New Mythical Pokemon Shaymin Available for DLC; A Look into Moves and Competitive Play Implications
Nintendo Offers Yet Another Mythical Pokemon for Players
As the Pokemon franchise celebrates its 20th anniversary, another mythical pokemon will be made available for fans of the games.
The new Pokemon is Shaymin, which is primarily a grass-type Pokemon and was last seen in the "Pokemon Ranger" game back in 2010. Shaymin was also featured in the 2008 Pokemon film entitled "Pokemon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior."
Shaymin is only available to players who are using "Pokemon X," "Pokemon Y," "Pokemon Omega Ruby" and "Pokemon Alpha Sapphire." Shaymin will start at level 100 and is ready for competitive and storyline play.
Move Set
Shaymin will have several moves that will have big implications in the competitive Pokemon scene. Shaymin's unique attack is called Seed Flare, and it is used to lower an opposing Pokemon's Sp. Defence trait for three whole stages.
However, the biggest power that Shaymin will have available is called Natural Cure. Natural Cure heals all status conditions on your team before switching out Shaymin. This could mean that players will use Shaymin as a tank to absorb status aliments such as attack down or confuse before switching out.
Evolution
Shaymin is a single-evolution Pokemon much like other mythical Pokemon like Mewtwo or the legendary birds from the first generation. However, Shaymin is unique, and it has the ability to have two forms in the same evolution. The two forms are called the land form and the sky form.
During the second form, Shaymin takes on a different appearance from a small hedgehog-type creature in the land form to a small deer-like creature in the sky form. It should be noted that Shaymin will gain the flying type while in the sky form on top of the grass type it already has.
To be able to access the sky form, the player must have Shaymin on your team and get the Gracidea Flower, which is said to be available in Snowbelle City in "Pokemon X/Y" and on Route 123 in "Pokemon Sapphire / Ruby."
Shaymin will be available until July 24 and will not be available afterward. Players must use the mystery gift function in the game to access Shaymin.
Shaymin is the sixth mythical Pokemon that has been made available for players. According to Nintendo, other mythical Pokemon they plan to release include Arceus, Genesect, Keldeo, Meloetta and Victini.
