New Orleans Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis Avoids Serious Injury, No Structural Damage in Left Knee

The entire New Orleans Pelicans organization (and their fans) held their collective breath when All-Star big man Anthony Davis went down with a knee injury midway through the first quarter of Tuesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Fortunately, the four-time All-Star managed to avoid a serious injury and he shouldn't be sidelined for long.

Davis underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam at the Moda Center in Portland after he hurt his knee and it came back negative. There was no structural damage, but he's dealing with some swelling in his left knee and he's listed as day-to-day, per Shams Charania of The Vertical.

According to sideline reporter Jennifer Hale, Davis initially felt pain in his left knee during pregame warmups, but he continued to play anyway.

He seemed to tweak it while he was posting up forward Maurice Harkless early in the game, and he appeared to aggravate it when he bumped knees with guard Damian Lillard minutes later. Davis left the game soon after.

"At halftime I was hoping AD was going to come back out there," DeMarcus Cousins said, via ESPN. "That didn't happen. I had to step up to the plate, and that's what I tried to do," he added.

Despite missing most of the game against the Blazers on Tuesday, Davis is currently averaging 24.3 points, 12.8 rebound, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in just over 31 minutes. He's also shooting 53.1 percent from the field and an impressive 45.5 percent from beyond the three-point line in the first four games of the season.

The two-time All-NBA first team member has been putting up MVP-level numbers across the board once again this season, but his inability to stay healthy has always been an issue since he came into the league in 2012.

Davis is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
