Michael B. Jordan will play Creed. He along with director Ryan Coogler worked together on "Fruitvale Station."

Apollo Creed was played by Carl Weathers in the first three films.

The script is being written by Coogler and Aaron Covington, and original Rocky producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff will return.

Jordan has starred in "Friday Night Lights," "The Wire," and "Chronicle."

Stallone will be forever tied to his Rocky character as he wrote the original script for the first film that debuted in 1976. He was currently working on a theater musical conversion of the film.

The 67-year-old is also known for his Rambo franchise, and starred in "Rocky II" (1979), "Rocky III" (1982), "Rocky IV" (1985), "Rocky V" and "Rocky Balboa" (2006).

The movie will be made on a $900,000 budget, according Yahoo! Movies, and it will be Coogler's directorial follow-up to "Fruitvale Station," an indie success at the film festivals.

His intention is to push the Rocky story along while also looking back at the earlier movies for inspiration.
It is unclear when the movie will begin filming.
