New 'Star Wars' Mobile Game Announced: 'Star Wars: Uprising'
The "Star Wars" franchise is ever-expanding. It was recently announced that a new mobile game is in the works called "Star Wars: Uprising." The role-playing game is being developed by Kabam, and as with any other content developed for "Star Wars," it is said to follow the franchise's official canon.
According to a report in Time, the game will be set at a time after the events of "Return of the Jedi," in a "remote part of the galaxy," called the Anoat Sector. This sector reportedly includes Hoth and Cloud City.
Players can take on different roles such as Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Diplomat, Rebel Guerrilla, Gambler, among others, with each class having its own distinct set of skills and weapons. An Imperial devotee serves as the game's "boss" and this villain is suppressing news about the death of the Emperor so that he keeps control over the area.
Gameplay will allow players to "create characters, go on missions, build their gear and skills, and organize crews and factions to participate in wide-ranging battles," according to the official press release cited in the Time report. As with other "Star Wars" role-playing games, players need to learn different abilities and collect gear and equipment along the way, as they build their character.
An IGN report gives more details about the game's "no-fault" levelling system. Levels are separate from the gear one collects, and skills can be swapped out any time. Players can switch around their abilities and experiment. The limit is in the number of abilities that can be used at any one time. In other words, players need to decide which set of abilities are the best combination for different situations.
The game will be undergoing a beta roll out in select territories in the coming weeks. The game has an official site where people can sign up for the beta, according to the report. It is scheduled for release this fall, with the first two chapters. New chapters will be developed eventually. Its fall release is timed so that fans can have something to do before "Star Wars: Episode VII" hits theaters in December 2015.
