New 'Star Wars' Movies Latest News: Lucasfilm President Already Planning Next Decade of 'Star Wars' Franchise?
Where will the "Star Wars" franchise go after the ninth film in the Skywalker saga is released in 2019? Luckily for the fans, they are going to be seeing more content in the next 10 years.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was recently interviewed by Andi Gutierrez on "The Star Wars Show" about what the film company has been up to and what they are planning for the future of the "Star Wars" franchise. When asked about her relationship with the story group in Lucasfilm and how closely she is working with them to come up with new plans, Kennedy revealed that they are already outlining their plans for the next decade of "Star Wars."
"We're sitting down now, we're talking about the next ten years of Star Wars stories, and we're looking at narratively where that might go," she said in the interview. "Future stories beyond Episode IX with these new characters: Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8. But we're also looking at working with people that are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us to places that we haven't been yet. And that's exciting too because its a vast galaxy far, far away, so the possibilities are endless," she added.
As of now, there are three confirmed upcoming "Star Wars" films, including "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which opens in cinemas this Dec. 15. Meanwhile, "Solo: A Star Wars Story," which is a spin-off film revolving around the story of young Han Solo, is scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release. Lastly, "Star Wars 9" has been announced to come out on Dec. 20, 2019. They are also reportedly developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff movie.
According to Screen Rant, the Lucasfilm president's response may not have been referring to the franchise's big-screen presence only. Although that is surely where a big part of the focus will be, and since they still have several films lined up in the next few years, there may be other forms of content coming out as well.
Meanwhile, one of the much anticipated moments in the upcoming December film is the revelation of Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage. There have been speculations that she is Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) daughter, but there are also many other theories. However, in Hamill's latest tweet, where he compares the resemblance of his character and Ridley's, fans cannot help but think that this is some sort of hint that they are indeed related.
Whether or not this is true, fans will soon find out when "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" arrives in cinemas in two months.
