New 'Star Wars' Short Story Explores Obi-Wan Kenobi's Life After Death

The reborn "Star Wars" universe has introduced fans to a whole slew of characters, some of which the "Star Wars" movies have never really fully explored. With "The Last Jedi" gearing up for its December release, a new report suggests that a new "Star Wars" short story is also currently being developed that will focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Titled "Time of Death," the new "Star Wars" story will reportedly be part of the book "A Certain Point of View" and will follow Obi-Wan after his demise.

Obi-Wan's character returned in "Star Wars Rebels," where he finally had closure on his issues with Darth Maul. The TV series also served as a means for fans to see for the first time how the Jedi Master spent 20 years of his life on Tattooine, watching over Luke from a distance. There are speculations that the said narrative from the "Star Wars Rebels" could serve as a potential basis for the upcoming "Star Wars" anthology film focusing on Obi-Wan.

While it will still take a while before the Obi-Wan "Star Wars" anthology film sees the light of the day, fans will be treated to an Obi-Wan-focused project that will explore the Jedi Master's life in the "Star Wars" lore, particularly after sacrificing himself and dying in the hands of Darth Vader.

Fans of "Star Wars" know that even after his death, Obi-Wan was still able to communicate with Luke without being with him physically. According to Cavan Scott, who wrote "Time of Death," the upcoming short story will closely follow the Jedi Master's adventures as he guides Luke after his death. The author confirmed the upcoming release of the new "Star Wars" story via Twitter and even teased fans with a short excerpt from his work.

'"My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi and I am dead. I know how that sounds. Crazy old Ben with his crazy old stories. But this isn't crazy. This is happening. At least, I think it is. – 'Time of Death,'" read the excerpt.

"From a Certain Point of View" is set for release on Oct. 3.
