New Study Reveals 'The Defenders' Is Marvel/Netflix Series With Least Viewership

A new study revealed that Marvel's "The Defenders" was the least-viewed Marvel/Netflix series in the United States. The study was conducted by marketing analytics firm Jumpshot, which measured the viewership of the superhero series over their first 30 days of being on air.

Marvel's "The Defenders" features the crime-fighting team of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. It serves as the climax of the narrative that started in 2015, when "Daredevil" premiered on Netflix. The shows "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" soon followed. As the four street heroes each had their separate battles and their own issues to face on their respective shows, these all resulted to them being led to an epic showdown with the Hand, an evil organization that was the major antagonist in "The Defenders."

It has been a month since "The Defenders" premiered on Netflix, but it looks like it has still failed to catch the attention of a lot of viewers in the United States. In fact, new data from Jumpshot revealed that the individual Marvel/Netflix shows of the members of the fighting quartet had higher viewership ratings than the current series where they are all working together.

According to the marketing analytics firm, "The Defenders" only had 17 percent of "Daredevil" season 2's total viewership on its first 30 days on Netflix. The firm also revealed that "Iron Fist," "Luke Cage," and "Jessica Jones" had 28 percent, 27 percent and 26 percent of the viewership, respectively.

Jumpshot came up with the comparison by making an index that checked each of the Netflix/Marvel series against "Daredevil" season 2, which was the most viewed series among them for March 2016. The study particularly focused on Netflix subscribers in the United States who watched each of the series being studied at least once. It also found that "The Defenders" had the most significant week-over-week drop in viewership compared with the other shows.

Marvel's "The Defenders" premiered on Aug. 18 and can be viewed on Netflix.
