Tarzan Film Premiere Date Coming 2016: Alexander Skarsgard to Play Tarzan

Warner Bros. is set to release a new upcoming "Tarzan" movie on June 1, 2016. The film will be a 3D action-adventure work by director David Yates and will be based off of Edgar Rice Burrougs' "Tarzan" novel.

The film adaptation of the film takes place after Tarzan has made his move from the jungle to the city of London alongside his companions John Clayton III, Lord Greystroke, and his wife Jane Porter.

Tarzan is then sent back to the jungle to act as a trade emissary of the Parliament, unaware that he is only being used to further a plan by Belgian Captain Leon Rom.

Tarzan will be played by Alexander Skarsgard, known for his role as Eric Northman in the "True Blood" series and as Commander Stone Hopper in the film "Battleship."

The role of Tarzan's wife, Jane Porter, is given to Margot Robbie, who is mostly known for her role as Naomi Lapaglia in "The Wolf of Wall Street" (2013).

Samuel L. Jackson is also part of the cast but it is still unknown what role he will play.

The film has been in the works for more than a decade now, with initial plans going as far back as 2003, with an announcement by Warner Bros. in 2006. Initially, Guillermo del Toro was to direct the film but passed on the responsibility to Stephen Sommers.

Sommers left the production early on and the project was delayed and eventually shut down due to its high budget, only to get resumed sometime in late 2013.
