New Version of Roku Streaming Stick Announced, Priced at $50

Streaming media company Roku has finally unveiled its third generation Streaming Stick. As detailed in CNET, the newest addition to the firm's lineup of video set-top boxes and streaming sticks is now available for pre-order. And the best thing about it is that it only costs $50. It's also smaller and thinner, totally replacing its predecessor which was released in 2014.

But despite its size, the new version of the Roku Streaming Stick proved worthy of attention because of a unique feature that cannot be found elsewhere. According to a report by Gizmodo, the 2016 model is equipped with the ability to stream audio straight to the Android or iOS device. Users can now connect via Wi-Fi through the Roku app to have audio streaming.

Another noted highlight is its fresh feature which allows users to listen to the streaming via their phone's headphone jack. They can also access this one through the Roku mobile app where they will find the headphone icon. Once they tap it, they will enable private listening mode and mute the TV and pipes audio from the Roku Stick to the device. No more disturbing other people while users listen to their favorite music or video.

TechHive also detailed that the Streaming Stick's size is designed for the purpose of making it more portable compare to the previous model. Roku SVP Sharad Sundaresan said, "The ability to take the streaming experience on the road is a key purchase consideration for Stick customers." He also said that because users move the stick from one TV to another inside their home, having a smaller and thinner size is most recommended.

Moreover, Wired noted that the Roku Streaming Stick is revealed to have a quad-core processor, which is eight times the processing power of the previous model. It's also said to have an improved navigation and speed and has an enhanced wireless performance, adding 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band (5GHz and 2.4 GHZ) MIMO capability.

The Roku Streaming Stick will be available later this month so those who are interested to purchase one can start pre-ordering already.
