New York Giants NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Will Odell Beckham Play Against the Lions?

The New York Giants offense was just horrible in their 19–3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.

The Cowboys' defense deserves a lot of credit for putting constant pressure on the Giants offense. However, a lot of people have pointed out that things could have turned out different if Odell Beckham Jr. was playing.

The three-time Pro Bowler's presence was sorely missed last Sunday. The good news is he may be available on Monday, Sept. 18, when they take on the Detroit Lions at the MetLife Stadium, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Beckham is still limited in practice, but Raanan said that "everything is trending in the right direction" and the two-time second-team All-Pro wide receiver has a "realistic shot" at making his regular season debut next week. Giants head coach Ben McAdoo has also noted that Beckham has shown some signs of progress in his recovery from the ankle injury.

Of course, fans should temper their expectations because Beckham said the high-ankle sprain was expected to keep him out for six to eight weeks. He hurt his left ankle during their preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 21. That means Monday's game will be exactly four weeks since he suffered the injury.

Beckham has also told reporters that while he hopes to play against the Lions, he can't guarantee that he will be available for that game.

"(The ankle feels) better than yesterday, for sure. It's been getting better over the past couple days. Probably the best I've felt yet. So, I'm going in the right direction," Beckham said, via the Giants' official website.

"I can't tell you that right now, but I'm trying my hardest, that's for sure," he added.

The Giants need Beckham back on the field, but they may have to make do without him when they face the Lions.
