New York Jets NFL Trade Rumors: Jets Are Expected to Trade Sheldon Richardson

With the New York Jets actively shopping him around the league, defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was the subject of multiple trade rumors leading up to last season's trade deadline in November. However, the Jets did not pull the trigger on a deal involving him and he remained with the team after the deadline passed.

Well, it is time to welcome him back to the rumor mill because the Jets are reportedly placing him on the trading block once again in the offseason. According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the team will "almost certainly" try to trade Richardson again in the next few weeks.

"They can deal him now and get something in return or lose him next year for nothing (unless you count a compensatory pick in 2019). The Jets will ask for a first-round pick for Richardson, but they will have to settle for less, perhaps a third-rounder. He's a talented player, but he spent last season acting as if he wants out," Cimini said in his report.

"If they won't play him in his natural position (3-technique), they might as well use him as a bargaining chip. It's laughable to use him at outside linebacker," he continued.

Brian Costello of the New York Post also reported that the Jets were looking to move Richardson and he said they would try to trade him to get another draft pick before the 2017 National Football League (NFL) Draft this April. He said the Jets might get a third- or fourth-round draft pick in return.

The Jets reportedly want a first-round draft for him during the trade deadline last season, but they will have to settle for less if they want to trade him because his trade value is at an all-time low right now. Richardson has butted heads with his teammates last season, and they need to move him if they want to get rid of the distractions in the locker room.
