Mychal Rivera Visits the New York Jets
With Jared Cook in the fold, the Oakland Raiders are not expected to re-sign Mychal Rivera. However, the tight end still has a lot of suitors and he's going to meet a team that badly needs a quality tight end this Monday.
FOX Sports' Peter Schrager has reported that the New York Jets have expressed interest in signing Rivera and they will be bringing him in for a free-agent visit.
The Raiders selected Rivera in the sixth round of the 2013 National Football League (NFL) Draft. He started out strong during his rookie campaign backing up Jeron Mastrud and he continued to impress the following season. However, his production and playing time started to decrease during his third season with the Raiders and he didn't really play much last season.

The Jets didn't really use their tight ends much on offense in the past few seasons in Chan Gailey's offense, but there's a new offensive coordinator in town. As a former tight ends coach, John Morton should pay more attention to the position and include them in the team's offense.
"The Jets hired John Morton as their new offensive coordinator in January, and ironically enough, he began his coaching career as a tight ends coach with the Raiders. Tight ends should be used a lot more in the passing game under Morton, especially with wide receiver Brandon Marshall now in the other locker room at Metlife Stadium," Dave Holcomb of FanRag Sports said in his report.
"Should he sign with the Jets, Rivera would compete with the very talented but troubled Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who the NFL just suspended two games for violating the league's substance abuse policy," he continued.
With the Jets, Rivera could prove that his production during his first two seasons wasn't a fluke, and he should have a legitimate chance to start for them as well.
