New York Jets Running Back Matt Forte Likely to Miss Sunday's Game With Turf Toe

Matt Forte is likely to miss the New York Jets' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.

The running back has been dealing with a turf toe in his left foot, and he did not participate in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

"He hasn't done anything football-wise. He didn't practice. We're just going to wait to see if he feels better [Friday] or Saturday. He'll be a game-time decision. If he's not better [Friday], we'll make a decision [Friday]," Jets head coach Todd Bowles said, via NorthJersey.com.

Forte sustained the injury in the third quarter of their 20–6 victory over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, and he's considered week-to-week. At least he doesn't have to undergo surgery to repair the toe.

He also had to deal with a turf toe in his right foot during his rookie season, so he already knows how it will limit his effectiveness on the field.

"It's tough to deal with. The nature of your position at running back, obviously, a lot of pressure on your toes when you're running and making cuts, even blocking. I know it's tough to deal with. I've fought through it before," Forte said, via the New York Post.

Forte hasn't played well so far this season. In three games, he has rushed for 94 yards on 23 carries, but he has yet to score a touchdown. He also made six receptions for 58 yards.

With Forte questionable for Sunday's game, the Jets signed veteran running back/kick returner Travaris Cadet on Wednesday and he has already practiced with them twice this week. The team placed Charone Peake on the injured reserve list to make room for him on a roster.

Bilal Powell should see an increase in workload if Forte is unavailable for the game. Rookie Elijah McGuire and Cadet should see some playing time as well.
