New York Knicks NBA Trade Rumors: Teams Target Derrick Rose Ahead of Trade Deadline
Right now, the New York Knicks are still busy looking for a trade partner for Carmelo Anthony, but it looks like the All-Star forward may not be the only Knicks player with his name in the trade market.
Last week, ESPN's Ian Begley said league sources told him that several teams were interested in acquiring Derrick Rose. He also noted that he would be surprised if teams do not inquire about Rose with the trade deadline just a few days away. Rose's best days were clearly behind him and he has been inconsistent this season. But he remains one of the best penetrators in the league and some teams would love to add a player of his caliber.
The 2010–11 league most valuable player (MVP) may be on the move once again mere months after the Knicks acquired him from the Bulls. Perhaps that is to be expected since he is on the final year of his contract. Rose knows that it's a possibility and he talked about his current situation in an interview with Newsday's Al Iannazzone.
"Who knows? I really don't know what could happen in the next week, the next day. I just got to wait and see. I haven't talked to [my agent]. I just let it happen. I don't talk things into existence, put things in the universe that I don't want to happen. I like being here but you never know what could happen. You never know the future they have for this team or decisions they have to make to try to build a winning team," he said during the interview with Newsday.
Before the season started, many believed the Knicks could challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference with Anthony, Rose, Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah in their roster. However, the team has struggled all season long and they are in danger of missing the playoffs. Will the Knicks chalk this up as a lost season and trade Rose before the deadline?
