'Zelda' and 'Kirby' Game Reviews: Graphics Called 'Totally Trippy' By Critics

Japanese game developer Nintendo startedthe release of their new games for 2015 with the launch of "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3DS" last Feb. 13 and a new "Kirby and the Rainbow Curse" on February 20. A Huffington Post report called the new games' looks "totally trippy," as they do not look anything like Nintento's traditional graphics.

The report describes the games as looking more "like 'Pan's Labyrinth' and 'Wallace and Gromit.'" It also said that this recent change may be because of Nintendo's reported decrease of 11.3 percent in sales last year, prompting the company to look for new ways to attract new customers and boost sales.

"The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" was released together with the New Nintendo 3DS XL System, but will also work with older 3DS systems. This game is a remake of one of Nintendo's oldest and most popular franchises.

The first "Legend of Zelda" game was developed and released in 1986, and since then, the franchise has produced 17 games in the series on all the major game consoles of Nintendo. The new game is reported to have "updated gameplay and visuals," with scenes that can be "nightmarish" when seen in 3D.

According to a review of the game on Examiner, it "retains pretty much everything that made it creepy, magical, experimental … while introducing a ton of welcome improvements that make it far more convenient and fun to play than ever." The game's objective is "to stop impending danger" that will befall a small town in a parallel universe by doing a lot of time traveling.

The other game that will be released on Feb. 20 for the Wii U console is a new game in the "Kirby" series, called "Kirby and the Rainbow Curse." The game is reported to feature better and more colourful Claymation- like graphics. The game's goal revolves around Kirby, who needs to bring back all the colors that were stolen by the game's antagonist.
