Newly TENAA-Certified Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 May Be World's Thinnest Tablet
Reports have emerged Samsung may announce two new recently TENAA-approved tablets, one of which is rumored to be the world's slimmest to date.
South Korean electronics manufacturer, Samsung recently had two new tablets approved with China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA), and one of the models, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is said to be the world's thinnest high-end tablet.
Earlier on, news emerged Samsung was planning to announce two new Android tablet models as successors to last year's products, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The latest handhelds are yet to be officially titled, but are speculated to be called the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7.
Based on images and specifications from the TENAA certification, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (model number SM-T715) will feature an 8-inch 1536 x 2048 pixel AMOLED display, weigh 260 grams, and measure 198.2 x 134.5 x 5.4mm.
At 5.4mm or .21 inches, that would make the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 the world's thinnest tablet, slimmer even compared to the iPad Air 2's 6.1mm or Dell's Venue 8 7000, which currently holds the record at 6mm. Samsung is likely to release this key information officially when it unveils the new tablets.
The S2 8.0 will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, and will be powered by a 1.9 GHz Exynos 7420 octa-core processor. It will include LTE connectivity, 3 GB of RAM, an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front-facing shooter, an expandable external memory that starts at 16 GB, and a microSD slot.
A larger 9.7-inch version, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 will be launched at the same time, measuring 237.17 x 169.58 x 5.5mm
With the TENAA approval already in place, it shouldn't take long before Samsung officially unveils its new slates.
