Nexus 5 Release Date Approaches as Image of Device Leaks

The Nexus 5 release date should be sometime next month as pictures of the device hit the internet this week.

The photos were taken by a MacRumors user who happened to encounter the device while out and about. He released a brief report detailing his experience with the Nexus 5.

"Got to handle the Nexus 5," he said. "It is smaller than the G2. Didn't actually measure it, but holding it in the hand it is smaller. It does feel good holding it. The black back cover feels like my Nexus 7. The screen was ok, didn't wow me like the Note 3. The bezel is very small."

He was then asked to share more details but declined.

"I wish I could," he said. "Google is sneaky and has ways to see where the leaks come from. They are funny too. When the phone started up it needs to be updated. Some experimental software stuff and it says you need to guard it like a ninja."

The device that appears in the new pictures closely resembles the handset seen in the Android 4.4, KitKat software unveiling photos. This enhances the possibility of the Nexus 5 sporting this same design seen in both pictures when it launches later this year.

Google has a history of releasing Nexus branded handsets that provide a smoother experience than some of the other Android devices in the market towards the end of the year.

Last year it was the Nexus 4 by LG, and in 2011 it was the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung. The Nexus 5 will sport a slightly bigger screen with even more impressive specs and will most likely be the device to introduce the world to Android 4.4, KitKat, Google's next big update for its wildly popular OS.
