Nexus 6 Release Date: Smartphone Expected Within 2014?

With the release of a new Nexus phone every year since the phone was made available in 2010, fans of the Google smartphone are now wondering when the Nexus 6 will be released.

Experts have looked back at the dates when the previous Nexus phones were released, and according to PC Advisor, if history repeats itself, the Nexus 6 could be released during the later part of this year's fourth quarter.

For now, the only word about the Nexus 6's possible release dates is from Google's senior vice president, Sundar Pichai, who said that it would not launch in the first half of 2014, which makes a fourth quarter launch an even bigger possibility.

The device is expected to make its debut by October or November, and is rumored to be the vehicle on which Google launches its latest OS, Android L, also known as Lollipop.

However, there have been some reports earlier this year that the Nexus line is going to be discontinued and replaced with a new Android Silver line. This news was exclusively released by Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin and The Information.

The Information's sources are saying that the Android Silver program will aim to encourage manufacturers to use higher quality materials and more stylish designs that "closely adhere to Google specifications."

In May, Evleaks tweeted that "there is no Nexus 6" that will be launched this year and added that the Android Silver is coming in February 2015.

However, a source within Google who claims to be closely connected to the project told Ausdroid that the Nexus 6 will be launching this year, with the smartphone featuring a 5.5 inch display.
