NFL News 2016: Buffalo Bills Running Back LeSean McCoy Not Yet Cleared Despite Having Previous Brawl Charges Dropped

On February 7th, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy was involved in a nightclub brawl in Philadelphia, leaving two off-duty officers injured and sent to hospital.

In a report by SBNation.com's 'Behind The Steel Curtain', the incident was caused by a disagreement on the ownership of a champagne bottle at the Recess nightclub. The same reports adds that three other NFL players were involved in the incident, but have not been named.

On Monday, April 4th, Alex Chassen of SBNation.com reported that no criminal charges would be filed against McCoy for lack of sufficient evidence. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams made the announcement regarding the verdict.

Williams reiterated that his office was 'worked diligently' with the central detectives of the Philadelphia Police Department, but came to a latter conclusion that there is not enough evidence to prove that "any individual committed a criminal offense."

"My decision today is consistent with my commitment to the citizens of Philadelphia to charge, and only charge, those people who, based on evidence, are guilty of crimes," an excerpt of Williams' statement reads.

Chassen's report adds that Williams was subsequently criticized for 'overthinking the case' and 'taking too much time.'

However, despite being cleared by the Philadelphia Police, McCoy is not yet out of hot water. In another report by Mike Rodak for ESPN, McCoy is facing a possible civil litigation from the two aggrieved officers, Roland Butler and Darnell Jessie.

Butler suffered a broken nose and broken ribs, while Jessie suffered an orbital fracture.

McCoy could also be facing possible disciplinary sanctions from the league itself. According to the NFL's revised personal conduct policy, which was implemented last December, the league may conduct its own investigation of the incident, and impose its own sanctions, regardless of the final results of police investigations.

The NFL has yet to release their official statement regarding the said incident.
