NFL Rumors: Free Agency Begins, Manning Decides Between 2 Teams
NFL free agency began Tuesday, meaning in with the new and out with old. With the deadline nearing, star quarterback Peyton Manning will also be pressured to make a decision.
With the start of free agency, Peyton Manning is slowly being forced to near a decision about which team he will take on, now that the Indianapolis Colts have dropped him. Reports have suggested that Manning has narrowed his decision down to the Tennessee Titans or the Denver Broncos.
The Colts also cut linebacker Gary Brackett and safety Melvin Bullitt, in addition to tight end Dallas Clark and running back Joseph Addai. The team lost free agent receiver Pierre Garcon to the Redskins Tuesday, but anticipate signing a deal with Reggie Wayne Wednesday.
Vincent Jackson, one of the top free agency wide outs, signed a $55.5 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to work with quarterback Josh Freeman. Jackson will provide a slight contrast from the teams to other receivers, Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, as both are more short range targets.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are rumored to be re-signing veteran defensive end Jeremy Mincey with a contract max out of $27.2 million, while the Rams may be nearing a deal with Cortland Finnegan for an estimated $10 million a season.
The Chicago Bears have secured top receiver Brandon Marshall in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for two third-round draft picks. The San Diego Chargers signed receiver Robert Meachem, with a contract that is rumored to last four years and have a value of $25.9 million.
The San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN, have acquired cornerback Carlos Rogers with a 4-year deal worth roughly $30 million. The Dallas Cowboys, who released veteran cornerback Terence Newman, are expected to have interest in Kansas City corner Brandon Carr.
Many players are still making their rounds, and doing face to face meeting with teams. Free agency will continue into April or July , depending on the restriction status of the players.
