'Nier: Automata' DLC News: Game Director Explains Why 'Meaningful' DLC Release Is Impossible, Reveals Details on Game's Locked Rooms
It looks like "Nier: Automata" is not getting "meaningful" downloadable content (DLC) and Platinum Games explained why at the Pax East event.
During the Q & A at the convention, game director Yoko Taro revealed that despite Square Enix's interest for a "robust" downloadable content (DLC), Platinum Games does not have the resources for it.
"We don't have enough manpower or budget to create that type of content. Ideally, of course if we could do something, it would be great. But that said, when we see DLCs these days, a lot of people envision something that's quite robust like story DLCs from Witcher 3," Taro said.
"But unfortunately, Nier doesn't have the budget to do so. I just hope everyone doesn't anticipate too much from the DLC content if we end up doing some," he went on to say.
This means that while "Nier: Automata" could offer DLCs, oversized ones are out of the question. In fact, Taro said that the financial issues do not even allow them to add photomode in the game.
He also provided the same reasoning as to why they cannot produce a "Drakengard" remastered collection. If fans want to make it happen, Taro asked them to convince Square Enix to fund it.
On the other hand, during an interview with We Got This Covered, the game director discussed some elements in "Nier: Automata" that caught the attention of some gamers.
Locked rooms in "Nier: Automata" have poked the interest of some players, who believe that there is something waiting for them on the other side.
Before any "Nier: Automata" fanatic could attempt to do anything, Taro saves them the trouble by saying that there is nothing special about these rooms.
"So, Square Enix mentioned not to say anything about this ... but there really isn't that much meaning to them, so don't look forward to it," he said with a laugh.
"Tell your friends that it's just poop ... beyond those doors, it's just a lot of poop," he went on to say.
