'NieR: Automata' Release Date, News: Androids 2B and 9S Show Emotions in Latest Trailer

Platinum Games and Square Enix's "NieR: Automata" has been making waves in the gaming scene with its crisp battle gameplay immersed in a dystopian world where machine lifeforms dominate the Earth. Given the fact that the main protagonist is an Android and is expected to be apathetic, the latest teaser reveals otherwise.

In the title's newest trailer dubbed "Glory to Mankind 119450310," YoRHa 2B marvels at how wonderful the Earth is despite it being laid to waste. What was more noteworthy though was how she and YoRHa 9S showed a morsel of feeling, at least for a little while.

9S is seen seemingly doting on 2B, in which despite him being tasked solely for her maintenance, he shows he cares deeply as he marvels at her while she lies unconscious. 2B also reciprocates this with words. "If anyone is listening to this, there is something I need you to do. If ever you meet up with YoRHa unit 9S, I want him back," 2B says in a voiceover.

This is a wonderful surprise for fans of "NieR: Automata." It may prove difficult to identify with them if they are depicted as mere tools for war against the machine lifeforms, but this teaser shows that they can still display emotions.

Another highlight of the trailer is seeing two guys with platinum hair, telling the Androids that they are not so different from each other. Whether this means that they are rogue Androids or that they should side with the machines is something that's still wrapped within the plot, adding to the story value of the title.

The title's story revolves around the fate of humanity in the far future, where alien machine lifeforms invade the Earth and overthrow the original inhabitants. The humans sought refuge on the moon and developed the Android infantry to take back the world, that way they can return once more.

"NieR: Automata" swings into action on March 7, 2017.
