Night Dive releases 'System Shock: Remastered Edition' trailer

Night Dive Studios provided fans with proof that "System Shock: Remastered Edition" is going along fine. This proof comes by way of a new trailer which came out on Monday.

The video showcases the first two minutes of the game. The developer provided sneak peeks of the game's environment, which is the medical suite from the original title, and a bunch of robots. This brief glimpse of in-game footage should keep fans excited for the upcoming launch of the reboot next year.

The reboot was announced last year, but aside from a screenshot, the developer didn't provide anything substantial until now. It's been more than 20 years since the original game, and Night Dive promises fans of the franchise that the remastered version will stay true to the first game.

"After 20 years, we are remastering and re-imagining the original System Shock," Night Dive Studios said in the trailer's description. "We will keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine (Unity)."

These alterations or changes in the game are more of "immersive touches," founder Stephen Kick told Polygon. Kick provides the massive room at the end of the trailer as an example of the "kind of grandiosity" that was lacking in the original "System Shock."

"System Shock: Remastered Edition" is expected to launch sometime in 2017, although the developer has not revealed an exact release date yet. The game will be available to the Xbox One and PC.

In addition to this reboot, the franchise will also be getting sequel in the form of "System Shock 3." The game is being developed by developer Otherside Entertainment. The much-awaited sequel was revealed through a teaser site back in December. Warren Spector, producer of the original game, serves as studio director and he plans on taking the new game in "a different direction than Looking Glass would have, had that series continued."
