Nina Dobrev Announces She's Leaving 'The Vampire Diaries'
Actress Nina Dobrev has announced she will be leaving "The Vampire Diaries" after six seasons with a farewell note on her Instagram account.
"The Vampire Diaries" main protagonist, actress Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena Gilbert on the supernatural drama series, will soon be leaving the CW show after the sixth season ends on May 14 this year.
The 26-year-old Bulgarian-Canadian actress took to her Instagram account to bid goodbye to fans, detailing a farewell party on Georgia's Lake Lanier where she celebrated her official resignation from "The Vampire Diaries" with the cast and crew of the show.
Hinting she did not prefer to be forever identified with "The Vampire Diaries," the actress promised fans more information with her upcoming exclusive interview on the June issue of SELF Magazine.
Dobrev's quitting the show may not have come at a better moment. With the CW series' ratings dropping steadily, "The Vampire Diaries" could be pulled off the air.
There have also been speculations in the tabloids the actress was threatening to quit the show if her co-star and ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, who plays vampire Damon Salvatore on "TVD," became engaged to his present partner, "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed.
Whether those rumors were truth or fiction, Somerhalder did announce his engagement to Reed two months ago.
The show's co-creator, Julie Plec has announced "The Vampire Diaries" will go on with or without Dobrev, but network insiders are saying the actress made the right move, professional and publicity-wise, in quitting the show.
