Nina Dobrev to play scream queen in horror flick 'The Final Girls'

After a long time of playing the role of a vampire, "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev will now shift to being a scream queen in the upcoming horror flick "The Final Girls."

Nina Dobrev, who stars with Taissa Farmiga in The Final Girls, will try to escape the attacks of a cold-blooded murderer using their knowledge of slasher flick "Camp Bloodbath." Based on the trailer shared by MTV News, the movie has a similar feel with "Scream," according to The Inquisitr.

Taissa Farmiga plays the role of Max, the daughter of a dead movie scream queen, who watches the slasher film as a tribute to her mother. However, things take a weird turn when the theater erupts into flames and Max's group is trapped inside the movie itself.

Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, and Alexander Ludwig are among the cast playing Max's friends. Dobrev, on the other hand, is not the lead character but she commands attention in the trailer with her catchy line.

"I want chainsaws and big a** knives and I want them now!" Dobrev says in the trailer.

The bloodbath will continue until a "final girl" kills the killer. Max's group knows how Camp Bloodbath goes, but their presence in the movie affects the movie in an undesirable way, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The final girl, Chloe Bridges, fails to live long enough to kill the masked murderer, so the outsiders have to take on the responsibilities that she left behind, the report relays.

Dobrev has been in television series for quite some time, and now she is ready to jump to films and other roles. She says she is up to the challenge of taking on action, drama, or anything new.

"For now, I'm going to try doing film and doing different kinds of roles maybe," said Dobrev. "Hopefully, an action, drama, period piece, anything that I haven't done that I'm trying to tackle, for the challenge of it."

The Final Girls will premiere in theaters on Oct. 9.
