Nintendo Announces 'Metroid Prime: Federation Force' for 3DS (VIDEO)
Nintendo announced a new "Metroid Prime: Federation Force" game for gthe 3DS at the Nintendo E3 Direct event this week.
Five years after Nintendo released the last game in the "Metroid" series, it announced a new installment of its co-op first-person shooter, "Metroid Prime: Federation Force" at its E3 2015 Digital event Tuesday.
Initially unveiled during the 2015 Nintendo World Championships Sunday, "Metroid Prime: Federation Force" was officially inducted into the Nintendo 3DS stable at the E3 2015 with a presentation of cinematics and gameplay for Nintendo's 3DS handheld device.
The first person action four-player cooperative adventure game allows up to four combatants to complete missions fighting off legions of what appear to be hostile aliens amidst a setting of various planets in the "Metroid Prime universe."
With a setup reminiscent of "Star Wars: Republic Commando," the gameplay trailer focused on boss fights, with snippets of clips involving players decimating a number of minions via blaster fire.
The new game appears to be a departure from the previous games in the series in that it does away with its iconic heroine Samus Aran and the series' single player mode. However, the gameplay trailer didn't reveal the 3DS version's story arc or plotline.
After a Change.org protest petition with over 7,000 signatures called for the game's cancellation hours after its announcement, it was revealed single player mode will still be present in the new game, and Samus Aran will still make an appearance.
"Metroid Prime: Federation Force" is due to be released in the early part of 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS.
