Nintendo Gives Out 100 Wii U Consoles to Southwest Airline Passengers
Nintendo gave an entire Southwest flight free Wii Us on a trip from New Orleans to Dallas in an effort to help advertise their new console.
The 100-passenger flight was informed of their winnings by both a Southwest and Nintendo representative, and upon landing they all had an opportunity to take a picture with Mario.
"As Southwest's video game partner, our aim is to bring smiles to travelers and Southwest Employees through the fun of Nintendo video games," the rep said on board.
According to Wii U Daily, Nintendo and Southwest are now partnering together to set up Wii U gaming lounges through Dec. 22 in some of the more populated airports that Southwest flies through. So far the confirmed locations are: Dallas Love Field, Chicago Midway, Denver, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and St. Louis.
The two companies even set up a signup giveaway contest that can be viewed here.
Nintendo of America and Norwegian Cruise Line also partnered together to place the Wii U on all of the cruise line's ships.
According to the press release, the Wii U will be placed in all youth and teen centers on board. The cruise line and Nintendo previously partnered together in 2007 to distribute the Wii console.
"The Wii consoles have always been extremely popular among our guests," said Richard Ambrose, Norwegian Cruise Line's vice president of entertainment in the release. "The new Wii U systems are guaranteed to take gaming on board to the next level, and will surely be a hit."
"Wii U provides one of the most social video game experiences you can have, whether you're playing with family members or friends," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales and Marketing in the press release. "The ships in Norwegian Cruise Line's fleet give people a great opportunity to experience Wii U for themselves, have fun playing Nintendo games and make some new friends."
