Nintendo NX Controller Leak Debunked

An alleged leak of the Nintendo NX controller recently made the rounds on the Internet. But now, multiple reports are now calling it off as fake.

The alleged leak originated from Dual Pixels which got the information from a source who reached out to the publication on Reddit. The source has been identified as Idriss2Dev by Destructoid. Below is the photo of the alleged Nintendo NX which shows an elliptical-shaped controller that's mostly a screen at the front. Gamers have criticized the alleged Nintendo NX controller for having no buttons.

Most were skeptical of the "leaked" controller when it first came out. Some critics pointed out lighting inconsistencies. It looked very similar to a patent Nintendo filed last year (images below), which some attributed to possibly 3D printing the patent. That similarity worked to its disadvantage, as skeptics pointed out products typically don't look like the images included in a patent as they are more of a proof of concept than an actual illustration of what the final product will actually look like.

The reason that sealed the deal for some has to do with what members of IGN's boards found out about the display appearing on the alleged Nintendo NX screen. The on-screen image was apparently a screenshot for an Unreal Engine mobile demo. There's even suggestion that ET's face can also be seen in the on-screen image. ET is troll fuel for students of the games industry, according to Design and Style, which further states this "leak" could all be "one big ruse."

Dual Pixels have been reporting on Nintendo NX-related rumors recently, but the newly debunked leak has led some to question the authenticity of their previous claims such as Activision and Nintendo's partnership. The publication has asked followers on Twitter to send them questions regarding the leak as they will be addressing it in a future YouTube video.
