Nintendo NX news, cast, spoilers: Goal to be a platform that allows cross-play
Since Nintendo announced a new console, gamers all over the world have truly been excited for the possibilities that this new console can bring. Known for its innovation, it can be expected that the company will push the limit and may even go beyond what Xbox and Playstation have already offered.
The code name given to the console is NX. Nintendo is currently refusing to give more details about the project until next year; however, rumors about it cannot be controlled. The latest news going around is that it will give users the opportunity to cross play. According to Tech Times, this would be done by chaining "several pieces of hardware into an ecosystem with conditions favorable to cross play."
Furthermore, from what Nintendo had previously announced, its goal is not only to be more than just a console but also to make it a platform. Although the company has already denied plans of inputting Android in its system, it still hasn't addressed the rumors of using a flash storage instead of an optical drive.
A source revealed that NX will have a game version that can also run on other hardware that will support cross-play. However, if this is true, then it should also excite PC players since this would allow them to compete against and team up with gamers on Nintendo's future software. Although the company still chooses to remain quiet on Nintendo NX, from the official statements that the company has released about the framework, it is directing to a cross-platform experience as one of the main elements of this console-slash-platform.
This would definitely be in line with the vision of the late former president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata. Earlier this year, he released a detailed deal to make the company's popular IPs to smartphones and tablets. He also dropped hints about the rumored cross-platform as he compared it to the current Club Nintendo. He shared in his statement, "Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses. This membership will form one of the core elements of the new Nintendo platform that I just mentioned."
