Nintendo NX News: Nintendo To Release Stand-Alone Handheld This Year, According To IHS
A senior analyst of IHS, an international research firm that provides information and analysis for businesses and governments, said that gaming company Nintendo will release the much-awaited Nintendo NX handheld console later this year, according to a report in Tech Times.
Senior analyst Hiroshi Hayase, as cited in the Wall Street Journal, said that there will be an increase in shipments of flat-panel displays for gaming devices and this is "because of Nintendo's new game hardware expected to be released in 2016."
The handheld console is just one among the two next-generation gadgets that Nintendo is reportedly working on as part of the much-rumored NX project.
According to the IHS report, their data about display shipments indicate an increase by 2.4 million, part of which is expected to reach the Nintendo NX. Hayase also hinted that the gaming console is expected to be a standalone device, which can function on its own, like the 3DS, and different from the Wii U GamePad, which, as most people know, requires a Wii U console for it to be used. No other details such as screen size were given by the report.
Nintendo is keeping quiet about its Nintendo NX plans and has yet to comment on the IHS report. Without any official announcement, consumers are only relying on rumors about when the console will be released and what specs it will have. One rumor is saying that an E3 2016 launch in June may be possible.
A round up of rumors about the console has gotten mobile gaming fans excited about it. One rumor claims that it will have support for 900p graphics at 60 frames per second and 4K video streaming. Another rumor says that it will also be compatible with different platforms, allowing for interaction between the console and the Xbox One, the PS4 and PC. Backwards compatibility is also one rumored feature that makes it additionally attractive.
