Nintendo Switch Stock Update: Retailers Hope for Restock in Time for 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' Release

Nintendo Switch sales is technically at a halt since units of the new console have gone out of stock in almost all retail stores. Now, retailers can only hope that fresh batches of the console will arrive in time for the launch of "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe."

In the March 10 issue of MCV, an anonymous retailer based in the United Kingdom told the magazine that they are currently communicating with Nintendo on the matter of restocking the hybrid portable console. However, they were not yet given a confirmed date for the delivery of another batch of Nintendo Switch units.

The same retailer told MCV, "With Mario Kart coming in April, I would hope there would be more stock before then but that's not been confirmed."

Reports have it that stock shortages have been experienced as early as Nintendo Switch's launch day last March 3.

As per Gamesindustry.biz report this week, SuperData estimates that there have already been 1.5 million units of Nintendo Switch purchased all over the world based on the figures forwarded by Famitsu and GfK.

The biggest sales were recorded in the U.S. where about 500,000 hybrid consoles were sold. In Nintendo's motherland, Japan, 360,000 Nintendo Switch units have reportedly been purchased, followed by the European region with a number that "isn't far behind."

According to the same Gamesindustry.biz report, the Nintendo Switch's successful sales can also be attributed to the much awaited "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" game. As per the report, 89 percent of Nintendo Switch owners purchased the console with the said game, which accounts to 1.34 million sales.

If that is the case, the upcoming "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" game will probably muster another wave of hype and buyers since Nintendo recently announced new contents – exclusive on the Nintendo Switch – for the car racing game. "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" will launch on April 28 for $29.99.

So far, it is impossible to find a standalone purchase of the Nintendo Switch for $299.99. What people can find at Amazon, as of writing, are bundles of the console with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con controllers with price tags that range from $444 to more than $800.
