Nintendo to launch the NX in March 2017

Nintendo is getting left behind by its rivals, but the Japanese gaming giant isn't ready to give up, at least for now. Although the company's investors are a bit disappointed, Nintendo Co. are on track in making a comeback with the announcement of a new videogame system called the Nintendo NX, which reportedly is going to be released in March of next year.

Per Wall Street Journal report, the announcement interestingly came right after the company reported a huge decline in its sales. The main reason for the limited revenues is the fact that the brand hasn't really introduced anything new to a market that's flooded with so many options and with the likes of Sony and Microsoft leading the industry.

CEO Tatsumi Kimishima talked about several things, including Nintendo's outlook in the immediate future, but he didn't get into details about the NX, not even mentioning if it's either a console or a portable, hand-held gaming device.

The March 2017 release meanwhile is rather surprising for a lot of experts and gaming fans since the original expectation was at the end of this year. This might very well be a sign that something is wrong with the current plan, particularly the question of why they are missing out on the potential of selling thousands of the new gaming system during holiday shopping in December.

The videogame company revealed on Wednesday that their net profit for the fiscal year (ending in March) saw a significant drop of 61%, and if that is translated into actual money figures, it'll amount to about $148 million. According to them, the main reasons are the fact that the Japanese yen increased while the sales of one of their most popular products, the Nintendo 3DS, plummeted. Well, it isn't really a surprise since the 3DS is already five years old.

Finally, no details have been given about the NX's hardware specs or games, so we'll just have to wait for more information.
