Nintendo Unveils Arcade Archives Series; Classic Games to Become Available on Switch in Near Future
One of the things that Nintendo fans are excited about when it comes to new features for the Nintendo Switch is the comeback of the Virtual Console. It is the digital platform that enables users to play classic games from previous Nintendo systems.
Although video game company Nintendo has yet to launch their Virtual Console service on the Switch, it has been recently announced that they are launching a new program for the said console.
The company is bringing ports of classic arcade titles to Nintendo Switch as Arcade Archives. This program takes the classic, nostalgic games to the handheld console, allowing users to relive their childhood anytime and anywhere.
These downloadable games will be Switch ports of arcade titles from the 1980s. While the specifics are not clear as of now, GameSpot reports that the collection may include "Mario Bros.," "Vs. Super Mario Bros.," "Vs. Clu Clu Land," "Vs. Pinball," "Vs. Ice Climber," and "Vs. Balloon Fight."
"These arcade games contain subtle differences that can't be found in their NES counterparts," the Nintendo press release reportedly said.
Console owners can play these fun and exciting games on Switch with the use of Joy-Cons, which allow multiplayer gaming as well.
Arcade Archives will be launched on Sept. 27, with "Mario Bros." as the first release.
However, beyond these tidbits of information, Nintendo has yet to explain how much this collection would cost the interested players or how this new system works.
Aside from the expected release of a Super NES Classic system that is pre-loaded with classic titles, Nintendo also announced earlier this month that they are looking to increase the availability of the Super NES Classic system and that they have been planning to bring back the NES Classic sometime in 2018.
