'Fallout 4' Pip-Boy Edition Cancelled? Release of Special Edition Version a No-Go

Bethesda's "Fallout 4" Pip-Boy Edition is an example of a very successful marketing campaign for a video game. The company, Bethesda Softworks, recently announced that they are no longer able to manufacture the Pip-Boy Edition for the coming game "Fallout 4."

According to a report in Tech Times, the reason for this announcement is that the manufacturer of the special edition simply said that they can no longer produce it.

"We'd go back to [the factories] and say, 'Demand for this is insane, we've got to make more.' And they'd move other projects off or shift stuff to other factories and it just came to [them telling Bethesda], 'Final answer: sorry, this is as many as we can make.' And we sold every single one of those that we could," Peter Hines of Bethesda said.

Demand for the special edition has been unprecedented. The thing that makes this edition special is the novelty Pip-Boy wrist case for a smartphone, which allows players to manage the Pip-Boy's in-game functions through a free companion app on their smartphone, according to another report in Polygon. Basically, the wrist case where the smartphone is encased looks pretty much like the PDA that is being used in the game.

"Fallout 4" will be available starting Nov. 10, but this novelty edition of the game, which had versions for all platforms – PC, PS4 and Xbox One – helped the game with pre-order sales even before the game is out. The Pip-Boy Edition was sold for $120 each, and it is believed that more than 1,000 units were sold. The first batch was sold out within a day after it was launched during the E3 2015 in June, and a second run of the special edition had the same fate. As of reporting date, the special edition is sold out in all retail outlets.

"Fallout 4" is an upcoming action role-playing video game that is set in a post-apocalyptic world where players have to accomplish a lot of tasks from base-building, crafting among others, in order to survive.
