Nokia at MWC 2017 News: HMD Global Preparing Stage for More Nokia Smartphones Plus Tribute Release for Nokia 3310

It looks like Nokia is making a huge comeback in the upcoming Mobile World Congress this month. Aside from the rumored lineup of new smartphones, there are reports that HMD Global Oy will pay tribute to one of Nokia's most classic devices – the Nokia 3310.

HMD Global Oy is a Finnish manufacturing company with the exclusive rights to create mobile devices under the "Nokia" brand. They have recently launched the newest Nokia Android-run smartphone called the Nokia 6, however, the handset is only available in China.

Recently, Venture Beat got a tip that HMD Global will follow through the Nokia 6 release with several more smartphones to be unveiled at the four-day MWC event in Barcelona, Spain.

More Nokia-Branded Devices With Android 7.0 Nougat

HMD Global is believed to launch two more smartphones that will serve as mid and lower-range versions of the Nokia 6. This means these upcoming devices will sport the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system but with toned-down specs.

For comparison, Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch full high-definition display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip, 4 GB random access memory and a primary camera with 16 megapixels capacity. According to Venture Beat, the Nokia 5 will probably sport a smaller screen that measures 5.2 inches and with lesser RAM of up to 2 GB.

Since there will be notable specs differences, price changes are also in order. The Nokia 5 is expected to sell a little over $200 compared to the Nokia 6, which is currently priced at around $265.

The Resurrection of Nokia 3310

On the other hand, despite the advanced technology and specifications that latest smartphones carry, somehow, the world still longs for some of the classic mobile devices, and what's more classic and vintage than Nokia's 3310?

Now, rumor has it that HMD Global is setting the stage to pay tribute to the classic device by recreating and re-launching it amidst other show-stopping presentations of smartphones with the latest technologies.

The Nokia 3310 is practically immortal as the current generation cannot move on from its sturdy and ever-lasting battery life features. While it is rarely being used today, it can be found everywhere on the internet through relatable memes. It has also been dubbed as the Indestructible 3310.

Venture Beat reports that the resurrected version of Nokia 3310 will sell for €59 or around $63. There is a great chance that the release will primarily cover the European region while the North America market still needs to await further announcements.

HMD Global's Nokia event in MWC 2017 happens on Feb. 26.
