Nokia is Making a Comeback, Reveals New Finnish Partner
Nokia once dominated the mobile phone market in a time when smartphones weren't introduced yet. But the Finnish multinational communications and information technology company couldn't keep up with the competition, especially when the likes of Google's Android and Apple Inc's iOS took control of the market and it resisted change.
After selling its handset unit and literally surrendering the company to Microsoft back in 2014, the phone maker is back in the fold. According to multiple reports, Nokia is about to make a global comeback and will focus on introducing new mobile phones and tablets to consumers. According to The Associated Press, the brand will be working with a recently built Finnish company called HMD Global Ltd.
The company released a statement, confirming that it will be granting HMD an exclusive global license to build mobile phones and tablets with Nokia branding for the next decade. On the other hand, Microsoft, according to a report from AFP, said that HMD Global, in partnership with FIH Mobile of FoxConn Technology, will be taking over its feature phone business in an agreed amount of $350 million. This stake is the same one it purchased from Nokia two years ago.

Nokia's attempt on a comeback this time has more chances of succeeding compared to what it did back in 2011, the reason is because the new products are reportedly going to be run by Google's Android mobile operating system. Back in 2011 when its dominance in the market was wiped away by the rapid increase in popularity of Samsung smartphones, the company made a crucial mistake by choosing the Windows mobile platform instead of Android. The experiment became a total failure. It had no choice but to sell its handset unit to Microsoft for $7.2 billion.
This time, Nokia has a rare chance to redeem itself and become a significant player in the mobile device and tablet industry once again.
