Nvidia Titan Xp vs Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti Specs Comparison: Does New GPU Steal the Show From Predecessor?
Nvidia surprised the world with the arrival of the latest graphics processing unit called the Titan Xp. Upon the release of its specifications and features, reports were quick to compare it with the GTX 1080 Ti to see if it has what it takes to steal the show from its predecessor.
To begin with, both GPUs sport Pascal-based architectures. But right at the main technical specs, consumers will easily spot the huge difference between the two. For one, the slightly older GTX 1080 Ti is powered with 3,584 of Nvidia's Compute Unified Device Architecture cores while the Titan Xp has 3,840 of them. CUDA is a parallel computing platform developed by Nvidia that allows for an increased computing process of the GPU.
According to Nvidia, both GPUs have a 1,582-megahertz boost clock speed. However, Titan Xp's memory speed is a tad higher at 11.4 GB per second compared to GTX 1080 Ti's 11 GB per second operation.
GTX 1080 Ti and Titan Xp are both equipped with the latest type of video random access memory component, GDDR5X. However, the latter has a 12 GB capacity while its older brother has 11 GB. In terms of memory bandwidth per second process, the Titan Xp can perform with as much as 547.7 GB per second compared to GTX 1080 Ti's 484 GB per second.
Both GPUs can support virtual reality functions and a maximum resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels at 60 frames per second.
Based on the mentioned specs, Titan Xp is clearly a headturner. However, the GTX 1080 Ti still has an edge in terms of the price. The older GPU is priced at $699 while Titan Xp's whopping specs literally comes with a price and it costs $1,200 per unit.
With the release of the Titan Xp, it is now the second consecutive year that Nvidia has refreshed the Titan X since it was first launched in 2015. Some reports comment that it is understandable if some consumers feel frustrated from having to shell out big chunks of money for the first two versions only to find out that just a few years later, the company will release one of its most powerful GPUs.
