Oakland Raiders Quarterback Derek Carr May Play Against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday

Oakland Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr may return to action sooner than expected.

Following their 30–17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday, Jack Del Rio talked about Carr's status and he noted that he had a "feel" the signal-caller might be ready to play when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Del Rio also revealed that Carr wanted to suit up for the Raiders last Sunday, but they decided to hold him out to give the transverse process fracture in his back more time to heal.

"Look, we went through the whole issue. Took the time that we had. Decided it was best not to play him today. He was pushing pretty hard to play. There was enough of a decision where I made him questionable," Del Rio said, via ESPN.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken has also reported that Del Rio has reiterated that he expects to see Carr play against the Chargers on Sunday.

A two-to-six-week timetable was set for his return, but surprisingly, Carr was already back on the practice field a few days after he sustained the injury, albeit in a limited capacity.

In his absence, E.J. Manuel started at quarterback for the Raiders, but he struggled badly.

"It's the nature of the beast. I've been in every situation you can think of in this league, for the most part. So it wasn't something to get me rattled or our offense rattled. The biggest thing was just handling what we can handle and that was the next drive," Manuel said.

The Raiders have been mired in an awful slump since they kicked off the 2017 season with victories over the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets. While it's clear that a single person can't solve all their issues on offense, the Raiders still need to get Carr back on the field as soon as possible because he's the best quarterback on the roster.
