Obama Campaign Slogan Under Twitter Siege: Going 'Forward' Jokes (VIDEO)
President Obama's new campaign slogan was announced Monday and will be very simple and straight forward, although the meaning may be easily misconstrued.
The 2012 Obama campaign announced that the new Obama campaign slogan would be "Forward." Vice President Joe Biden may have thought he had a cleverer alternative suggesting, "Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive," but it appears that the campaign will be keeping it simple.
The slogan will be used to push forward the idea that Obama first began with in 2008 with his original slogan that stated "Change we can believe in." Based on the seven minute video that was released to debut the new slogan, "Forward" will focus on how Obama has pushed for positive changes during his four year candidacy with the idea that he should be re-elected to continue going forward with the change.
However does a one-liner make for a good campaign slogan? At the very least, it appears to have made for a great Twitter hashtag, although that may not be the most helpful thing in the Obama campaign.
"Under Obama's budget, Americans can look #FORWARD to a projected debt of $25.9 trillion by 2022," the GOP was quick to post on Twitter.
"Under second term of Obama, we would look #FORWARD to another consecutive year of deficits over $1 Trillion," another GOP tweet read.
Other Twitter users joined in on the fun.
"Yes #Forward, because if you look #backwards and see what he's done, you won't vote for Obama," John Nolte wrote Monday after the video appeared.
"Nothing says #FORWARD quite like 1930s economic policy and support for 12th century standards of liberalism in Middle East," Ben Shapiro chimed in.
The video however tells a different story of progress and an improved economy. "4.2 million jobs saved," the video boasted. "Cut taxes for 160 million Americans, Wall Street Reform passed, 18 tax cuts for small business, and unfair credit card fees eliminated."
The list goes on and on, although little is said about where the money has come from that will support all of the supposed progress, causing a few to raise an eyebrow.
