Offline Games for iOS and Android: Mobile Gaming Away From Wi-Fi and Data Charges

Fans of mobile games don't necessarily need to spend mobile data or be tethered to the invisible radius of Wi-Fi to enjoy playing on their mobile device. Not only are there tons of options for those who want their games offline, but also some of them are free to download and play. Find out more about some of the better Android or iOS offline games among the options out there.

These games don't need any mobile data or Wi-Fi to provide hours of immersive gameplay. Well, for multiplayer content, some of them would need players to go online, but for the most part, these titles are good to go basically everywhere, as tested and verified by We the Unicorns

"Plants vs. Zombies 2"

One of the most popular tower-defense type of games to hit the small screen, now updated and available on pretty much every platform and even on consoles, "Plants vs. Zombies 2" is free to download and play, and does not need any sort of internet connection to function. IGN describes it "As beautifully presented as it is absorbing to play: 8.7 out of 10."

"Fallout Shelter"

"The Sims" fans who are also into post-apocalyptic survival will need to play this one. The setting is based on the "Fallout" series, complete with underground vault and supply management. Bethesda's "Fallout Shelter" has been heaped with accolades from all over, and best of all, it doesn't need Internet to play, either.

"Minecraft: Pocket Edition"

This is basically "Minecraft," the smash hit game familiar to block lovers out there, rebuilt and optimized for mobile devices. It's not free to download, though, and will set a player back by almost $7. This mobile version is the real thing, however, and players who have spent hundreds of hours on the PC and console version will have no trouble transitioning over to the mobile version. Even better, the game does not need an Internet connection, except for some online features and multiplayer options. Moreover, the game is still constantly getting updates, all of which are free.
