'Okami HD' Release Date News: Capcom Confirms Game Launch in the West in December

Several days ago, Capcom finally confirmed that a remastered version of "Okami" was coming to the west and was set to launch in December.

In a statement, the game publisher officially called the upcoming game's remastered release "Okami HD" and promised that it would arrive with "updated visuals that take advantage of modern high resolutions."

Capcom added: "You can now play the game in a modern widescreen format, or if you prefer, you can play in the original 4:3 screen ratio. Fans of the original release, rejoice: we also brought back the original loading screen mini-game where you can earn bonus demon fangs that can be traded for in-game items."

The original version of "Okami" was released back in 2006 for players in Japan and North America, exclusively on PS2 consoles. After several years, it was ported to other consoles such as the Wii and PS3 as well as the PC.

The game was developed by Clover Studios as an action-adventure video game that takes place in the classical times of Japanese history. The game's main protagonist is named Amaterasu – a Shinto goddess of the sun who appears as a white wolf known as Shiranui.

"Okami" tells the story of Amaterasu and drew a lot of references from Japanese mythology and folklore. Players will assume the character of the main protagonist – both her wolf and goddess forms – and play with distinct powers and abilities specific to Amaterasu and Shiranui.

On the other hand, Capcom also confirmed that the game was being re-developed to support playing in "beautiful 4K graphics" which will be later released for the PC, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One X. However, Capcom has yet to confirm whether the 4K version's release will coincide with the "Okami HD" launch in December.

"Okami HD" will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Tuesday, Dec. 12, for $19.99 and can be bought in digital and physical form.
