Oklahoma City Thunder NBA 2015 News: Playing San Antonio Spurs on Opening Night
It seems that the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to be tested early in the regular season as it is revealed that they will be facing the San Antonio Spurs in their first match of the regular season.
Despite failing to qualify for the NBA Playoffs last year, many still believe that the Thunder are one of the best teams in the league, and a stern test against the Spurs is proof of that.
This will easily be one of the anticipated games of the league's opening day given the history and level of talent that both team possess.
The match will be at the Chesapeake Energy Arena and the Spurs travel with a reloaded line-up that features LaMarcus Aldridge.
After playing his first nine years with the Portland Trail Blazers, Aldridge made a big-money move to the Spurs that immediately help them regain their contender status.
Many are excited to see how Aldridge fits the team with veterans Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. Also in the mix is former NBA Finals MVP Kahwi Leonard.
Aldridge is a post presence and has averaged 19.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, many are also expecting the return of Kevin Durant after only featuring in 27 games for the Thunder last season.
Hampered by injuries, Durant still remained effective while he was on the court, averaging 25.4 points per game in his 27 matches during the regular season.
Russell Westbrook is also one that many are eager to see after an MVP-performance last year to make-up for the loss of Durant, Westbrook stepped up and averaged 28.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game.
Aside from their big opening game, the Thunder are also slated to go head-to-head against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls in another big date – Christmas Day.
The Thunder will also play at home at this time, hosting a Christmas Day game for the first time since 2011 when they beat the Orlando Magic.
