This has come as a surprise to many at this point of the season as the Mavericks have surpassed their expectations and recent games have showed their competitiveness against the best teams in the league.
On the other hand, the Thunder are right where many expected them to be, on top of the Northwest Division. Though they have not had a flawless season, they have done enough to remind the fans and critics that they are one of the best teams in the league and when they are on their best game, they can beat anyone on any given day.
Dallas and Oklahoma City are scheduled to meet four times in the regular season and already have one in the books, in a match-up that ended in a close victory for the Thunder at home.
In that clash, the Thunder opened up with a six-point lead after the first quarter and even extended it by half-time to eight points.
However, in typical Dallas fashion, the Mavericks fought back and had a great offensive third quarter by cutting the lead down to two points to make for a very interesting final quarter.
The teams traded baskets but the Thunder eventually held on to a 117-114 victory behind Russell Westbrook's 31 points, five rebounds and 11 assists of the night.
