'Once Upon A Time' News, Update: Show Boss Edward Kitsis Reveals More Same-Sex Romance Coming for Season 5
The return of Jamie Chung's Mulan for the upcoming fifth season of ABC's TV series "Once Upon A Time," once again sparked the issue of same-sex relationships in the show.
The Chinese warrior character disappeared back in Season 3 when she joined Robin Hood's (Sean Maguire) band of Merry Men leaving the town after she learned that the love of her life, Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger), is already carrying the child of Prince Phillip (Julian Morris).
"Mulora" fans may already be looking forward to the reunion of Mulan and Princess Aurora, but according to what executive producer Edward Kitsis told TVLine, there will be more of this same-sex love affair to come in Season 5.
"We know that [the LGBT] community has been a big supporter of the show, and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that," Kitsis said at the press screening event on Friday (via TVLine). "It is something we're going to do this year," he revealed.
Co-exec producer Adam Horowitz, who was also present in the occasion, added that it is their goal for the show "to reflect the world as it is now." Like Kitsis, Horowitz saw the romantic set-up as rather an important aspect that the ABC program has to feature "because it's the world we live in," presently.
The EP, however, remained mum on the details "whether that's going to be with any particular character," although by now, the Mulan-Aurora link is something to start with.
For those who missed the earlier casting report, it is indicated in the E! Online report that Chung will be reprising her Disney role "for a multiple-episode run." When probed further by the media outlet, Horowitz teased that Mulan will be in "both halves of the fifth season."
"Once Upon A Time" Season 5 premieres this Sunday, Sept. 27, at 8/7c on ABC.
Stay tuned for more updates.
