The season 4 premiere episode was one of the most successful for the show ratings-wise, as according to EW, the series "spiked an impressive 31 percent from last fall to mark its best ratings in nearly two years."

Of the new characters, Josh Dallas, who plays David Nolan/ Prince Charming, said that they weren't very nice.

"Elsa is mean. But she's misunderstood like most of the villains on 'Once Upon a Time.' Ultimately, I think that's why these characters, particularly Elsa, fit so well into the 'Once Upon a Time' world," he said.

However, Elsa won't be playing the villain as ABC finally announced "Lost" alum Elizabeth Mitchell's role on the show. She will be playing the Snow Queen.

The producers talked about Mitchell's role to Hollywoodlife, with executive producer Adam Horowitz saying, "what we can say about Elizabeth on the show is that for the first time, we're showing a villainous side to Elizabeth Mitchell."

"Not just working with the Others because she has no choice, but a truly villainous side. We can't wait to scare everyone," executive producer Edward Kitsis added.

According to "OUAT" star Robert Carlyle, the "Snow Queen is connected" to why Elsa landed in the vault.

Watch "Once Upon a Time" on Sundays at 8/7c on ABC.
