'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 Spoilers, Plot News: Season 5 Will Explore Hook's Life
In the past seasons, fans have seen Hook evolve from simply being Peter Pan's adversary to someone essential to the story, as his presence is the main focus of Emma's romantic interest. However, this season, it seems that Hook may be more crucial than ever before as his connection with Emma could be one of the keys to save her from succumbing into darkness.
After the second episode of the season, viewers already know how Emma was able to retain the feelings she has for Hook, despite turning into the Dark One. According to executive producer Adam Horowitz, Emma will have conflict within herself in the coming episodes. Her evil impulses will be going head-to-head with the feelings she has for Hook. Horowitz shared to Entertainment Tonight, "I think Dark Ones give into their darkest impulses and they are capable of love. But it's about the choices they make and the things that they do in pursuit of the things that they want."
In the past, Hook has been convinced by Emma multiple times to side over with the good, but this time, it seems that it will be the other way around. The second episode proved that the tables have turned when Emma attempted to lure Hook into abandoning his plans to save her and instead be with her in her evil state. Hook had surprised her when he rose above the cooing and told her, "This may be who you think you are, but this is not who I am." Horowitz already shared that this will be Hook's greatest challenge in the season, to not be pulled by into the darkness amid his attempt to rescue Emma. Hook will also have the predicament of ignoring what he has been doing for so long. Horowitz added, "he has been around for hundreds of years battling that [the darkness], and he has spent a large portion of that trying to kill a Dark One. Now, he's spending a large portion of his time trying to save a Dark One."
Show co-creator Eddy Kitsis further revealed that finally, fans will get to know more about Hook's history this season. He stated, "We are going to see that, most likely, in the second half of the season. We're going to see more of Hook's life. With this season, we do plan to see more of Hook's life and his backstory. But I think things about Hook's past that we've touched on — whether it be his brother, or talking about his father — those events in his life resonate in the first half of this season as well in a very important way."
"Once Upon a Time" season 5 airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET of ABC.
