'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 News, Cast, Spoilers: The Unthinkable Happened as Emma Breaks Henry's Heart
Season 5 of "Once Upon a Time" is truly taking on a different path this season as one of the inevitable scenes has already happened. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) has done something fans of the show never thought she would be capable of doing, and that is to break Henry's (Jared Gilmore) heart.
All throughout the five years of the show, Henry has shown great faith in Emma, but that same faith is now shaken as Emma is now also the Dark One, and the roles they play are no longer familiar to anyone at all, including Henry. According to Zap 2 It, the latest episode proves that people's actions can be altered by what their goals are. Emma might have finally given herself into the Darkness as she breaks Henry's heart to free the trapped Merlin (Elliot Knight).
Viewers saw Emma and Regina (Lana Parrilla) team up once more, this time around to achieve the common goal of getting Merlin out of the tree. However, although they tried to work toward the same goal, their methods were obviously different. They needed a tear of a lost love to free Merlin, and as Regina has recently started to take on more heroic roles, it is a little less surprising that she volunteered to relive the difficult time she lost her first love. As for Emma, self-sacrifice seems to be the last thing on her mind as she proceeded to get this from none other than Henry.
Henry, who was experiencing her first love with Violet, had obviously given Emma the leverage. As Emma ripped Violet's heart out and controlled her to break up with Henry. Emma then collected the tears Henry shed over this and continued on to free Merlin. Of course, it didn't take long for Henry to find out from his dreamcatcher in Storybrooke what his mother did, and at this point, it can easily be said that Henry's heart not only broke for Violet but also for the mother he always believed in.
Compared to all the other evil done by the previous Dark One, Emma's actions were a little less evil in the previous episode. However, for Emma, who had always put Henry's needs on top of things, this selfish act perhaps reflects the darkness that is slowly starting to take over her.
"Once Upon a Time" airs every Sundays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
