'Once Upon A Time' Season 5 Premiere Date, Plot News: EPs Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis Talks About Emma's Motivation As The Dark One

The days are getting closer than ever for the premiere of ABC's hit supernatural drama TV series "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 to hit the small screen but fans may still be hankering for more information on what to expect. Here's the latest we heard:

Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis recently sat down with TV Line to offer a close look on Season 5.

Horowitz spoke about Emma (Jennifer Morrison), who succumbed to the Darkness to give Regina (Lana Parilla) the chance to have her own happy ending. When asked if what kind of Dark Emma should this season present, the EP revealed that "she's a very motivated Dark One" and that there's this "real driving force behind what she's doing and why" and that's what this season will explore.

Horowitz, however, explained that this force won't be like everyone thought of as a "rampant, uncontrollable evil." But, viewers should expect Emma to "do something particularly bad" to others and to those even close to her.

Kitsis, meanwhile, teased that Emma is "hiding something from the audience" and its truth will be unveiled soon as the second half of the season commence.

As for the long-held theory that there will be a role-reversal between Emma and Regina, Horowitz once again clarified that "it's not necessarily that Regina is the Savior" while Emma is the main opposition party. The previous months already revealed that this season will serve to show just how much the people who matters most to Emma will do to save her from this spell.

Nonetheless, the mayor felt that she owes Emma big time and taking over for Emma is the least she can do but apparently, this will be "her biggest challenge yet."

"…it's an awkward fit for her [Regina] because she's not used to having to lead or take charge. And she's got to work with people like Hook, who has a very strong interest in saving Emma as well. And both Hook and Regina are strong personalities," the showrunner explained (via TVLine).

"Once Upon A Time" Season 5 premieres Sunday, Sept. 27, at 8/7c on ABC.
