'Once Upon a Time' season 5: The return of Mulan
Five seasons in and "Once Upon a Time" is more than able to keep the excitement going. The new season will have a refreshing take as viewers will be seeing more than just a change of heart in villains, but an actual reversal of roles for Regina and Emma. Regina has started to become more of a hero in the past seasons; however, her evil tendencies still surface every now and then, so whether or not she's ready to take on a full hero role is yet to be seen.
Furthermore, fans will be seeing the return of a lovable princess, which would be Mulan. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jamie Chung, who plays Mulan, is confirmed to reprise her role in the upcoming season. Mulan was last seen in season 3 when she decided to join Robin Hood and his Merry Men when she found out that Princess Aurora was having a baby with Prince Philip. There hasn't been a lot of details as to how she will be returning this season, but it is said that it will be more than just one episode. Executive producer Adam Horowitz shared on Twitter that Mulan is slated to appear in both halves of the fifth season, which would be great news for the princess' admirers.
It seems like there are a few notable comebacks this season. Aside from Mulan, just a week ago, it has been confirmed by TVLine that Ruby or Red, played by Meghan Ory, will also be reprising her role in several episodes. Show co-creator Eddy Kitsis hints, "I hope there's a full moon this year. You never know who might come out…." This is obviously a reference to Ruby's curse of turning into a wolf every full moon. Ory has been busy with her other show "Intelligence" and has last appeared in the show during an episode in season 3.
The first half of Once Upon a Time season 5 will premiere on Sept. 27, Sunday on ABC.
