'Once Upon a Time' Series News: Show Finally Features Gay Love Story, Draws Mixed Reactions From LGBT Viewers

Two seasons after it teased the viewers of a possible gay love story in the series, "Once Upon a Time" finally delighted its LGBT fans in its latest episode titled "Ruby Slippers."

It can be recalled in the third season run of "Once Upon a Time," Mulan (Jamie Chung) revealed that she was harboring a romantic kind of love for Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger). However, when the gay love story finally happened, it revealed that Princess Aurora and Mulan were not the ones involved but somebody else.

In the said episode, Mulan helps Ruby (Meghan Ory) find her pack of wolves in Oz when they meet Dorothy (Teri Reeves). Then, they help Dorothy defeat Zelena (Rebecca Mader) after the latter steals the former's dog named Toto.

Ruby and Dorothy shares some moments together as they bond and talk about family issues. Then, Ruby confides in Mulan about her true feelings for Dorothy. This prompts Mulan to give Ruby a piece of advice saying, "Don't make the same mistake that I did. Don't wait until it's too late to tell someone how you feel."

However, when Mulan's words of advice finally sink in to Ruby, it is then when she realizes that Dorothy is gone as the wicked witch has already put her under a sleeping curse. With an advice from Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Ruby puts on the magical slippers, goes to Oz, and rescues Dorothy from the sleeping curse with her true love's kiss.

"True Love's kiss has been a staple of this show since the beginning. This past Sunday's episode was just another example of how in a fairy tale, as in life, love is love," said co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis regarding the groundbreaking LGBT storyline in fairytale inspired series.

According to Movie Fone, the said episode generated mixed reactions from various members of the LGBT community. While it is true that "Ruby Slippers" celebrates love that transcends genders, some LGBT viewers thought that it was presented in a mediocre manner.
